How to Improve Gas Mileage in a Sports Car
Sports cars are notorious for using up a lot of gas. All that accelerating and downshifting will surely exhaust your gas supply. This is why during car races, these cars need to spend a few seconds stationary to refill the tank with gas.
To give car manufacturing companies credit, they have developed new cars that conserve more on gas. This allows users to use their car for longer miles. However, if your sports car is not a recent model, you can try the following tricks to improve the gas mileage of your sports car.
Tip 1: Do not alter engine mechanisms just so you can push your car’s speed. Some owners modify the turbo adjustments of their car but come to think of it, this is only for show. Your car will look cool and showy but it greatly reduces gas mileage. If you are using your car for other purposes such as transportation to your work, think twice before altering the engine.
Tip 2: Get this advice from the pros: refrain from flooring your accelerator. I know that is the whole point of a sports car-it is meant to speed up like a spaceship being launched in space. But do not go excited over the idea of flooring your accelerator. Did you know that you actually spend 3 dollars for every 5 seconds that you step on that accelerator on its maximum? That is pretty much a big ouch on your pockets considering that this type of car already costs a lot in maintenance only. If you still have a full tank and if you are only using this to get you from place A to place B, go easy on the accelerator.
Tip 3: We know that sports cars are built for performance which is why it also doubles as a tow car. But this can take its toll on your car’s gas mileage. If you are not that concerned about the price you are going to pay for gas, then be concerned about transmission damages as towing another car can trigger that prematurely.
So if you have this type of car and you are not really using it for show anyway and you aren’t likely to take the fun out of flooring the accelerator or anything, do yourself and your car a favour and follow the above-mentioned tips. A little gas conservation will certainly benefit you a lot.
